The International Rebecca West
Society was founded in 2003, by Bernard Schweizer, a
West scholar, Helen Macleod Atkinson, West's grand niece, and Carl Rollyson,
a West biographer.
The society exists to encourage
and create interest in this magnificent twentieth-century writer,
and hopes to attract a diverse audience: scholars who work in
literature, history, politics, philosophy, journalism, and women's
studies; critics who write for academic and popular audiences;
and readers who want to experience a great polemical thinker and
extraordinary stylist. We hope to foster conversation among all
people interested in her work, and to make her name and works
better known.
